Under The Maple Tree

(K. A. Patterson and the Paradise Band featuring Danny & Mike)

Lookin’ back to that summer day, when we sat and talked beside of my driveway,

In the shady breeze under rustling leaves, and I played you songs that turned out all wrong,

There was heartbreak on the summer wind that day.

Even though my heart was about to melt, from the white-hot flame that for you I felt,

Trouble lurked behind those distant eyes; your unsteady words made me realize

There was heartbreak on the summer wind that day.

My world would soon be shattered and a heart all torn and tattered lay ahead for me.

I heard it in your voice and saw it in your eyes, under the maple tree.

Now, every day, the neighbors all see me sitting on a bench beneath that tree,

Head bowed to pray to the Lord above, asking Him to bring you back to me - under that tree.

Now that tree and me, we pray every day that your heart will bring you back this way.

Neither one of us was prepared to face all the loneliness and the empty space,

When there was heartbreak on the summer wind that day.

When our whole world was shattered and our hearts were torn and tattered because you went away.

We heard it in your voice and saw it in your eyes, me and the maple tree.

Now, every day, the neighbors all see me kneeling on the grass beneath that tree,

Our heads bowed to pray to the Lord above, asking Him to bring you back to me - me and that tree.

Every day, the neighbors all see me sitting on a bench beneath that tree,

Our heads bowed to pray to the Lord above, begging Him to bring you back to me – me and that tree.
